The Sandpiper Inn

For many in The Bahamas, July 1st signaled the introduction of 12% VAT. For me however, it was the start of a new opportunity. I got the chance to experience Schooner Bay, South Abaco and I stayed at the uniquely beautiful Sandpiper Inn. Schooner Bay is a fairly new development, that houses numerous homes, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, a marine harbour, two amazing beaches,  a world of history, unbelievable natural resources and two inns; namely, Blackfly Fishing Lodge and The Sandpiper Inn.

The Sandpiper Inn, opened its’ doors in  late 2014 and has been putting smiles on faces ever since. It is comprised of 7 rooms; 4 being town cottages and 3 suite rooms. The hotel also has an upscale restaurant that serves Breakfast and Lunch Monday- Wednesday and Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Thursday- Sunday. Head Chef Marcellus Higgins has over 30 years of culinary experience and is highly skilled. Everything I had was delicious. I would definitely recommend the Hogfish Hoagie for lunch. First bite and I realized that I had never really had fish in my twenty-something years of life. Like, what have I been eating?! The fish was well seasoned and tasted so fresh.

The Sandpiper is about a 10 minute walk away from the beach, if you don’t feel like walking, this little community offers golf cart and bicycle rentals. However, I do encourage you to walk, you’d hear the chirping of the birds, explore the natural life, breathe in fresh air and see a few small iguanas run by. This little piece of paradise is everything your vacation/staycation/baecation has been missing.

Schooner Bay boosts breathtakingly gorgeous beaches, you’d “WOW” every time you see them. The waters are also excellent fishing grounds; boaters love it. The view of the marina  is almost just as beautiful as the beach and from The Sandpiper’s Hisbiscus Suite, it’s mind blowing.
