For the entire year, I had been longing for an out island vacation. However, being busy with work, friends and the random things that come up in life I didn’t plan a trip and thought I would probably do it for my birthday or later on in the year. October or later seemed too far though, so one hot summer night, mid July I messaged my friend (when I should have been sleeping) about going to Abaco, Eleuthera or Exuma for the August Monday holiday. The next morning, I woke up to her saying that Abaco sounded great. In my disbelief, I asked if she was serious because I was serious and I was ready to book everything right now — and did! We booked flights and found a cute Airbnb in Marsh Harbour that same day. We had such a fun time and I’m so happy we went. Here’s everything we got up to.
Breakfast at Thrisies
My lovely Airbnb host picked us up from the airport and recommended Thrisies for breakfast. I wanted a good Bahamian souse and I was not disappointed. There are options to dine in and take away and we decided to dine. The wait was about 7 minutes. I got the stew conch and my friend got the sheep tongue souse and when I say they know exactly what they’re doing, they know. Both dishes were so good, the conch was tender and the sheep tongue literally gave me life. I wish I was eating breakfast there right now.

Hopetown Inn & Marina
After a delicious breakfast, it was time to get ready to head to the dock for the 10:30am boat to Hopetown. The ferry dock is at the Crossing and costs $25 round trip. We arrived with time to spare and the ride was about 15-20 minutes. When we arrived in Hopetown, we didn’t know where we wanted to go first and decided to stop at the Hopetown Inn & Marina for drinks and to make a plan for the day. It was recommended that we get a golf cart to explore the island, but after numerous calls to golf cart companies, we found nothing. Everything was either sold out or the company didn’t rent the golf carts for less than a week. This trip was all about enjoyment though, so I changed into my swimsuit and we went into the pool and had another drink. It was nice to relax and just chill on a sunny Saturday. Like why don’t I do this every weekend?

Cap’n Jack’s
Around 3pm, we took the marina ferry to the other side of the island to Cap’n Jack’s restaurant for lunch. We took our food to go because my friend was tired and ready to nap, which I kinda understood. I got the blackened fish sandwich and she got the crawfish salad. Once again, the food was fooding and I wish I had more of that crawfish salad right now too.
Nipper’s Beach Bar
Your weekend in Abaco is not complete without visiting Great Guana Cay on Sunday. Years ago, I visited Nipper’s and Grabber’s for the first time and had the best Sunday ever, you can read about it here. The walk from Guana Cay dock to Nipper’s seemed much longer than I remembered, but when I finally made it and saw the view, I was blown away. Gorgeous blues went on for miles and I knew I couldn’t let the day passed without having a dip. We got a frozen Nipper and went in the pool. A great time indeed.

Grabber’s
A few hours later, it was time to walk over to Grabber’s for lunch. I got a double bacon cheeseburger and fries and my friend got their rasta pasta. Of course, we had to get their signature drink, a Grabber– which is very similar to a Nipper. The food was good, the drinks were good and enjoyment was really on the menu that Sunday.
Rick Ross Concert
While at breakfast on Saturday morning, we heard that Rick Ross was having a concert in the north. Honestly, so crazy because what is Ricky Rozay doing in Abaco having a concert?! Yeah, we had to go. It was a treacherous drive and an even longer wait, with the current turning off at the party at least 15 times before Rick Ross appeared. Despite all of that, I had an amazing time. He played all my favorites of his including, Aston Martin Music, BMF and Pop That. I was singing and dancing and rapping, like hello, it’s me.

And here is how you have the best weekend in Abaco. It was so much fun, I can’t wait for my next out island vacation. Where should I go next? I’m thinking maybe Eleuthera or Exuma, or maybe I’ll finally make it to Bimini.

This weekend sounds like a DREAM! I need to make a trip!! I love and out island get away!!
