Where Ya Been: Long Island

We’re back! With the hopeful rise in domestic tourism, it’s only fitting that we bring back the “Where Ya Been” series. Exploring The Bahamas is so enjoyable and I am counting down the weeks to my next out island adventure. I’m not sure as yet where I’m going, but the ideas of Bimini, Grand Bahama and Eleuthera are dancing around in my head. Yeah, I really need to finalize my plans. My After Quarantine List

I have been putting this off for as long as I could. I just didn’t want anything Corona related on my blog. However, I realized that this is something that we are all facing and I’m in a better space to actually talk about it now. A few weeks ago, I was in a rut and just couldn’t make sense of any of this. Everyday, I caught myself in a “I can’t believe this is real life” game. I sympathize with the people this is affecting the most. The persons with underlying conditions, the elderly, the ones in unfortunate living conditions, the essential workers and the people who were already living paycheck to paycheck and now don’t know where their money is coming from. We are all living in this pandemic and a little compassion and grace, can go a long way.

My First Year as a Blogger

“Aye it’s Derencia Travels”, “Man, I saw you was to one festival…”, “I gotta get traveling like you” are some of the phrases I’ve become accustomed to over the past year of blogging. It always makes me smile and think “Well, someone is following me, maybe I’m encouraging someone to go to that festival, book that island vacation or even try a new restaurant or activity” and honestly it’s the best feeling. To know that I’m one of the reasons that my Bahamian people are more interested or knowledgeable in experiencing the best our country has to offer is exactly why Derencia Travels exists. However, with everything there has definitely been ups and downs of this journey.
