Bucket List: The Bahamas Edition

The Bahamas has always been a top listed destination to travel to for a dream vacation or any holiday really. Most recently, I saw a tweet that listed my beautiful country as the number one trending destination for New Year’s 2019. I think it’s amazing, that so many people want to bring in the new year in paradise. But really, who could blame them? Millions of people visit our islands every year just hoping for sunny days filled with clear turquoise waters and a fun time. That tweet really got me thinking about my holiday plans and my possible 2019 travels.

I thought it would be pretty interesting to Bucket list my top 5 islands to visit for the remainder of this year and the upcoming months of the new year. Definitely, I want to see everything! 700 islands and cays? Don’t mind if I do. I just know that may not be feasible in the time frame. But you never know right? In no particular order, here goes my Out Island Bucket List:

 2. Bimini: This just seems like the perfect island getaway. I’m not sure if it’s because of Resorts World Bimini, the charm of the island or Bimini bread itself. Probably, all. Bimini has just been calling out to me and I have yet to answer the call. All of my friends that have visited, all rave about the good time they had. I need to make my way to Alice Town. I literally broke out into song, writing this. Anyone remember Stevie S’ “Come go with me to Bimini”?

3. Long Island: I now have a new found interest in jumping into Blue holes. Sidenote: Have you watched my video of jumping in or read my post on the Sapphire Blue Hole? Of course, I have to check out Dean’s Blue Hole (the deepest underwater cave in The Bahamas, second deepest in the world). Six hundred and sixty three (663) feet is pretty deep though, so I probably will be too chicken to jump, but the beach surrounding it does look very appealing. We will see.

4. San Salvador: You’re probably thinking, “What is there to do in San Sal?” I honestly don’t know much about the island, but I’m willing to find out. Guanahani, as it was called by the Lucayans, is known for its’ monuments, ruins, shipwrecks and Christopher Columbus’ landfall. The historian in me is yearning for a new discovery and this may be probably one of the best places because of its’ undisturbed nature.

5. Acklins/Crooked Island/ Long Cay: Remote, seclusion and miles of pristine beach, please and thank you. These islands are known for their natural wonders (beaches, mangroves and rivers). I’ve always been the type to stay indoors and read a book or watch a show. However, living in Abaco this summer changed my life. Beauty surrounded me everywhere I went and everyone was always outside enjoying life. My perspective changed and I realized that there is really no place like The Bahamas. I have to visit these islands and soak up some sun, learning and exploring the wonders of Bahamian nature in its purest form.
