Last weekend, I traveled to North Eleuthera with a few goals in mind. One being, visiting the Sapphire Blue Hole and hopefully jumping into it. I became particularly interested in these enormous water caves this summer, but was too chicken to actually visit one when I was in Abaco. I researched the depths, ways of getting in and out of them and definitely what creatures could be found inside. Ya girl does not do animals well. I watched numerous videos and googled photos, everything and anything that would help me build up the courage to make the leap.
Sunday came and and I was flying back home in a few hours. I figured I should make the time count. Driving to the Blue Hole was a breeze, until I saw the sign and my trepidation started to rise. I had to smile for a photo though; of course.
As I arrived to the Blue Hole, anxiety kicked in and my mind was racing, but, I had to stay calm. How could I be freaking out already? I had not even seen it yet… and then I did. I was completely mind blown. All the photos and videos I saw did not do it justice. The Sapphire Blue Hole is absolutely magical. It’s just something about the way the sun glistens on the water and the twinkling of the turquoise or rather sapphire water just shines brightly.

At this moment, my anxiety was all the way up in the clouds and my mind was screaming, “ABORT MISSION ABORT, you already have some photos, you can still say you’ve seen the blue hole even if you don’t jump in.” However, I was also hearing, “Girl, you can do this, you got this, you can swim, you’ll be fine. You have to.” After about a twenty minute battle with myself, I built up the courage and was about to jump. Or so I thought. I just could not do it.
A few minutes passed, I calmed down. I ran and I jumped. I JUMPED into a beautifully blue abyss and I didn’t die. Nothing swallowed or attacked me. It was one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had and I’d do it over and over again.

What are some of your most exhilarating experiences?
Loved this. What a beautiful view.

I loved this, hope it goes as well for me as it did for you, just a quick question, how do you get out, is there a ladder?

Happy you enjoyed it! There wasn’t a ladder when I was there. I had to get out using the ropes & rocks. Hopefully there is one now!
